For the launch of new Cambridge Quantum Computing website, I worked closely to Sasha Lobe's team on some CGI scenes and generative animations. We explored the theme of nature, in particular the interaction between technology and natural environment.
We took inspiration from "The sea of tranquility",
a dark spot located in the northern hemisphere
of the Moon.
The sea is not a body of water but a lower-altitude plain.

We designed a surreal and inspiring environment as a background for the new website, mixing a lunar atmosphere with traditional water,

Lobe designed a solid color palette, in order to create organic and fluid gradients, light spectrum moving from one point to another.
A spot of yellow was created using metaphorically the name of "aurora", referring to dawn, while a pastel liliac was created to represent the presence of life on Earth.
The near side of the Moon is deeply etched by dark volcanic maria, which fill the spaces between ancient crustal highlands and prominent impact craters.

The lunar surface has a reflectance that is just slightly brighter than that of worn asphalt.
